The Power of PR

Written by Frances Knox, founder of Frankly PR

Successful media relations can result in immediate sales and increased brand awareness for a company.

A piece of editorial coverage in a specialist trade publication, a national newspaper or a glossy magazine is a powerful endorsement of a company and its product and services.

This third party endorsement is worth more in terms of value than a 'paid for' advert to the consumer. It also has a longer shelf life as people often save and share articles of interest for future reference.

When dealing with the media, remember that a journalist will only print something that they consider newsworthy for their readers and good journalists will discount PR ‘puff’. Information sent to the media should be newsworthy, concise and relevant to the audience.

Press releases should really be called 'news' releases as only genuine 'news' should be sent to the media.

Once a journalist trusts and uses a company's news a relationship has been built which then opens the door for contribution to future articles as a trusted authority on the subject.

When media coverage has been generated don’t forget to spread the news further afield using social media tools including Twitter, FaceBook, and your company’s blog.

Unleash the 'power of PR' for your company.
